inAntonio Cumberbatch was born on January 30, 1990 in the Caribbean island Barbados. There he lives with his parents and one brother.
At only 18 years old, as a BCC (Barbados Community College) student, Antonio was able to take his Posh Punk designs to the prestigious Caribbean Fashion Week and wow audiences enough to garner much praise and press coverage. In Jamaica this new collection opened CFW on June 9, 2006 capturing the attention of the fashionistas. His work has been on an upward spiral since then.
While Antonio has yet to fully launch his career as a designer internationally, he has set a foundation as the Barbadian designer to watch. From his debut at BMEX as a new graduate of the BCC Design programme he catapulted into the regional and international fashion media with his signature Posh Punk. Now since studying in Florence Italy, his work has turned a corner. Even as a student he has been awarded as finalist in national competitions in Italy and has interned with design houses in Italy and the UK. A lot is expected of him as he charts his course beyond graduate school to apprentice with prestigious design houses in Italy in a bid to emerge as a top international designer from Barbados.
Antonio is well known to BMEX. He launched his line Posh Punk at BMEX in 2005, received international acclaim that same year at Caribbean Fashion Week (CFW) in Jamaica and again at CFW in 2006 and 2007. By 2008, he was en route to further his training in Florence, Italy and was also part of BIDC Portfolio Project titled Fashion Forward.

inI’m inspired by the Caribbean woman’s innate expression of confidence and flair. Such expression lends true beauty to the colourful diversity of our landscape and provides much for inspiration.
Launched in 2005 by self-taught designer, Kevin Ayoung-Julien, as a boutique operation producing custom-made one-of-a-kind pieces, Kaj Designs debuted its premiere collection, Chachalaca, another name for Tobago’s native bird, the Cocrico. Trademark pieces were featured at the 2005 Caribbean Fashion week (CFW) in Jamaica and the 2005 Caribbean Fashion Rhythms in Barbados.
As Creative Director, Kevin’s steely determination, meticulous nature and commitment to the highest of standards, have allowed him to carve a niche in both the local and regional fashion markets. At the age of 30, with a mere 5 years of design experience, the raw talent of this Tobago native has caused members of the Caribbean’s fashion circles to stop and pay notice to his art.
The designer is driven to create. He exists to do so. Nothing provides him greater joy. It is his passion. His discerning eye explores every line and cut of his pieces ultimately concerned with the visual impact of his works as he steadfastly pushes himself to perfection.
He is the man behind the line of clothing and accessories embodying his appreciation for Caribbean culture and its diverse heritage, “I’m inspired by the Caribbean woman’s innate expression of confidence and flair. Such expression lends true beauty to the colourful diversity of our landscape and provides much for inspiration.”
